Get To Know – Prossy

We love having the opportunity to share our story with supporters through social media. We would love for you to get to know more about our children and our staff. Here is Prossy and her story to kickstart our ‘Get To Know’ series.

“She is clothed in strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future” -Proverbs 31:28

Prossy came to New Beginnings in the summer of 2011; she, along with three other children were picked up from a waiting facility in Kampala (Uganda’s capital) with our July team that year. She had been placed there for temporary care until a better, long term solution had been decided. Prossy was found by a good Samaritan, stranded at a new taxi park in Kampala and was taken to the police station. The local authorities brought her to the shelter where she stayed until Roger was contacted and asked to take Prossy into his care.

The July team took Prossy to the village with them, where she would experience deep love and care for maybe the first time in her life for all we knew. She would have a bed to sleep in, a house to live, food and water, medical facilities if needed, and she would be given an education. Most importantly, Prossy was brought up in Faith and in time, grew to know and love Jesus.

9 years on, Prossy is now 11 years old and is such a happy soul. She can be found by the sound of her laugh around the village and is usually never too far from her friends. For being so young, Prossy is such a helpful hand- she is always willing to help others whether it be assisting younger children or helping the houseparents. She is such a caring young girl with a huge heart. Prossy loves the younger children at the village and if there is a baby nearby she will have him/her swooped up and perched on her hip.

I am sure many people will remember or have heard of sweet Sumaya who used to live at New Beginnings. Sumaya sadly passed away in December 2012 after a hard battle with cancer. Prossy and Sumaya were best friends- after arriving at the village they bonded and became very close. For weeks after she passed, Prossy told everyone they were to now call her Sumaya, as she missed her and wanted her to still be a part of life at New Beginnings. This is just an example of Prossy’s compassion from such a young age. She is blessed to have known Sumaya and to have lived as her best friend.

Prossy is in Primary 2 of New Beginnings Primary School. Her ‘best’ colour is green. Prossy likes playing netball, singing and dancing. She has many friends, but her best include; Grace, Peace, Boxa and Gloria.

Prossy is a selfless, loving and overall amazing child, it really is quite hard to sum her up in words alone. I hope we have given you some insight into her character and know more about her. Prossy is happy and healthy thanks to all of our great supporters, sponsors, staff (in Uganda and Norther Ireland) and Uncle Roger. All of what we do would not be possible without the grace of God, we are merely His hands and feet carrying out His works.
